Blueberry Sour Cream Pie
Blueberry Sour Cream Pie – a sweet, yet tart pie made with a creamy filling, and a crumbly streusel topping. This one is always a big hit!
Hey y’all! This Blueberry Sour Cream Pie is coming to you straight from my hotel room today, as we are right in the thick of it with this move!
I photographed this one a few weeks ago before the movers came and I’ve been saving it up to share with you today.
It’s been hard being away from the blog and I am seriously missing my kitchen. We’ve been eating out for dinner almost every night which sounds nice, but oh what I wouldn’t give for a home cooked meal right about now.
We’ve managed to eat breakfast and lunch at our hotel most days to help save money (read: lots of cold cereal and ham sandwiches) but I am really dreaming about that first meal I get to make in my new kitchen.
Speaking of which, we are also in the middle of house hunting!
We are buying our first home when we get to Texas and I’m overwhelmed with equal feelings of excitement and terror. I can’t wait to have a house and a little piece of land that is all our own, but then everything that goes wrong or right is now our responsibility!
It’s been kind of nice to just call up maintenance when the ice maker suddenly stops working, or you have an ant invasion in the kitchen and they’ll send someone out to handle it.
I guess it’s time for my hubby and me to start learning how to be “handy!”
If you’re wondering how the kiddos are doing with the move, they are handling the transition pretty well so far.
We’ve kept them busy with plenty of pool time, last beach visits, and even a special movie treat to see Finding Dory! It was my 2 1/2 year old daughter’s first movie and she actually did pretty well for the first hour.
After that, she was pretty fidgety and seemed to enjoy how loud her voice sounded in the big theatre, so it took some bribing to get her quiet!
Now, as for this glorious Blueberry Sour Cream Pie!
This one didn’t last long at our house. I was racking my brain for a way to use up a bag of frozen blueberries, and that’s when I found this recipe over at Food.com. I am in love with the creamy filling and crumbly topping, and I bet you will be, too!
You can use fresh or frozen blueberries in this pie. This pie is really delicious because the berries are the star and their flavor really shines through. If you’re using frozen blueberries, thaw them first. I like to rinse them in a colander under cold water and then drain REALLY well (I lay them out on a bed of paper towels to help) for a quicker thaw.
I’ve made it with both and actually prefer to use fresh blueberries, but frozen works well too.
Enjoy y’all!

Recipe: Blueberry Sour Cream Pie
Ingredients
- 1 deep dish unbaked pie crust
Filling:
- 3/4 cup sugar
- 2 tablespoons flour
- 1 cup sour cream
- 1 egg
- 1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 2 1/2 cups blueberries, fresh or frozen (if using frozen, thaw and drain really well)
Topping:
- 3 tablespoons flour
- 2 tablespoons sugar
- 1 1/2 tablespoons cold butter
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 400 degrees F. Prepare pie crust by covering the crust's edges with foil. This will help to keep the edges from getting too brown.
- To make the filling, combine sugar and flour together in a medium sized mixing bowl. Using an electric mixer, beat in sour cream, egg, vanilla, and salt over medium speed for about five minutes. Carefully fold in the blueberries. Pour batter into pie crust and bake for 30 minutes.
- While pie is baking, prepare the topping by crumbling together the flour, sugar, and butter with a fork.
- Remove pie from the oven and sprinkle on the topping. Return to the oven and bake for 10-15 more minutes until topping is golden. Remove from oven and allow to cool throughly before slicing. Enjoy!
The best pie I ever made. It was a major hit for my husband’s birthday. The only thing I did different was I doubled the ingredients, since my husband wanted more blueberries.
So glad to hear that, Sherry! Happy birthday to your husband!
Easy to make. Everyone loved it. Thank you for sharing! God bless you!
I made this pie it’s delicious but the topping wasn’t enough it didn’t cover the top of the pie like in the picture
Hi! This pie looks amazing. When do you remove the foil from the edges?
After I take it out of the oven!
Made it. Deliscious.
Whoo hoo! Glad you enjoyed it!!
This pie is so good! I made a couple modifications, I used half cup of sour cream and I doubled the crumb topping. Delicious!
Yay! Glad you’re enjoying it Susan!
What size pie plate did you use?
I believe it’s 9 inches.
Has anyone tried this with a regular top crust?….I was wondering about freezing the pie…and if I use the crumb top, it would be hard to add after baking for the 35 minutes. Hummmmmm?????
I’ve never tried a regular crust or frozen this pie before, but I don’t see why you couldn’t! Let me know if you try it!
I’ve made your pie many times and its always amazing. I just made it again recently but slightly changed it. My husband and son went nuts so I thought I would share. Basically I spread the blueberries on the bottom of the pie crust. Then I took slightly over half a bar of cream cheese and mixed it with a little sugar until smooth (to taste). Then I dalloped the mixture evenly dispersed over berries. I poured your yummy sour cream mixture over all of it and added crumb crust when ready. I made it late so we placed in fridge and ate in the morning. OMG!! Its like having small bites of creamy cheesecake in the already amazing sour cream pie. Its heavenly good!
This sounds like exactly what i was looking for…How much sugar did you add to the cream cheese?
There are no directions on how to make the Blueberry Sour cream pie!
Hi Tommie, if you’re looking at the recipe on a mobile device, there is a button towards the top underneath the first picture of the post that says “Read More.” If you tap that and scroll down you should be able to see the recipe. If you’re on a desktop, it should show up no problem. If you’re still having any problems getting it, let me know and I can email it to you!
Is the pie shell filled unbaked
Great question! Yes, the shell is unbaked when you fill it.
I just made this! But because I’m a dietitian and I am trying to eat better, i made some substitutions. I subbed 2 egg whites for 1 whole egg, I used a butter substitute that’s non dairy because I’m lactose intolerant, i used splenda non calorie sweetener instead of sugar, light sour cream and i had to used canned blueberries because they were no good fresh at the local store. But I followed the directions exactly. It turned out so wonderful! I know its not the same exact recipe as yours. But you helped me find the base for an amazing lower calorie blueberry pie!! Thank you!
So glad you were able to adapt it to work for you, Amanda!!
Could a fruit other than blueberries be used in this pie?
I haven’t tried it with other fruit, but I’m sure it would be great! Another kind of berry, like raspberry or blackberry, would probably be delicious!
I make mine with blackberries its awesome…i also did strawberry and banana thats awesome too
I made this pie for a pie competition on Pi Day ????
Where should I store it until the competition? Does it need to be refrigerated?
Hi Lacey, Happy Pi Day! You can just cover it with plastic wrap or put it in an airtight container. You can refrigerate it, too, but you don’t have to. Good luck at your competition!
We just made this, and it is really jiggly in the middle still. Is it supposed to be like that? Also, where did you move to in Texas? We’re in TX, too.
Did it turn out okay?
Hi Kari! It is more of a moist pie in consistency, but shouldn’t be too jiggly. I’ve noticed if my berries are more wet when I add them, it can add more moisture to the pie so I try to make sure they are as dry as possible. And we are in College Station! We’re really enjoying Texas so far!
Could you use nonfat Greek yogurt instead of sour cream?
I’ve never it tried that before. Let me know if you do and how it turns out!
This looks phenomenal!! I just got some fresh blueberries from the market and I am so tempted to use them for this! Good luck with house hunting too. Hope you find your dream home! 😀
I could go for a big ol piece of this pie right about now!
This is my kind of summer dessert. NJ is popping with fresh blueberries right now so this is perfect timing!
