Enjoying a big bowl of freshly made guacamole and crispy tortilla chips is one of my weaknesses.
And it really doesn’t get any better than Chipotle’s simple and addicting guacamole. I’ve been in love with it from the very first time I tasted it over ten years ago.
I started making this Copycat Chipotle Guacamole Recipe at home when we lived in a rural part of Wisconsin. With no Chipotle nearby, one must get creative!
The great thing about Chipotle’s recipe is that it’s very simple. They only use six ingredients and recommend using a whisk to mash up the avocados to get that signature delicious and creamy consistency. So now you can make it at home any time you want to!

Chipotle Guacamole Recipe – Tips and Notes
- To make it spicy: You can leave in the seeds from the jalapeños to add spice to the guacamole. If you would like it even spicier, you can add in more jalapeños to taste.
- Large vs small avocados: I like to use large avocados. If you can only find small ones, you can use four avocados.
- Use a whisk. Chipotle actually recommends using a whisk when mashing the avocados. It helps achieve that creamy consistency we all love.
- Serve right away. This Chipotle Guacamole Recipe tastes best when eaten right away. If you’re not planning to eat it immediately, see my tips below for storing it to prevent browning.
- Optional additions: This is a copycat version of Chipotle’s guacamole, and they pride themselves on using just six ingredients: avocados, onion, jalapeños, lime, cilantro, and salt. If you want to add diced tomatoes or garlic, feel free to, but it will be different from Chipotle’s version.
- Is guacamole keto? Yes! The main ingredient in guacamole is avocados, which are high in fat and low in net carbs, making it a great food to eat on a Keto diet. Guacamole is also naturally gluten free.
How long does guacamole last?
This freshly made Copycat Chipotle Guacamole Recipe can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2-3 days. A layer of brown might form on the top of the guacamole due to oxidation from being exposed to the air. You can scrape this layer off and still enjoy your leftover guac! See my tips below for how to keep the brown at bay as best you can!
How to keep guacamole from turning brown
When serving and storing your guacamole, leave the pit from one of the avocados in the bowl. This will help prevent the guacamole from turning brown too quickly. The lime juice in the recipe helps with this also.
When you’re ready to store your Chipotle Guacamole Recipe, place it in an airtight container with a lid. Take a sheet of plastic wrap and place it directly on the surface of your guac before placing the lid on top. This will help prevent air from getting into your guacamole and turning it brown.
Can you freeze guacamole?
Yes you can freeze guacamole, and this recipe is a great one for the freezer. Place freshly made guacamole in a freezer ziplock bag and flatten it. Remove as much air as possible and freeze for up to three months. Thaw completely in the refrigerator before serving.
