These Air Fryer Buffalo Wings come out perfectly juicy on the inside, yet crispy on the outside every time (thanks to a secret ingredient!) They are the perfect game day appetizer but also make for an easy dinner, especially with some carrots and celery sticks on the side. Pair them with some creamy ranch or blue cheese dip for the ultimate combo!
Pat chicken really dry with paper towels to remove excess moisture. Set aside.
In a large bowl, whisk together the potato starch and spices.
Add the dried wing pieces to the bowl and stir to evenly coat.
Spray the air fryer basket with olive oil spray and preheat to 400 degrees. Place chicken wings in a single layer in the basket (you will need to do two separate batches) then spray the tops with a little more oil.
Air fry for 20-23 minutes, shaking the basket every few minutes to keep the chicken from sticking/burning.
Warm the buffalo sauce on the stove or in the microwave if desired then coat the wings in the sauce. Repeat the process with the remaining wings and enjoy!
Notes
Potato starch can usually be found in the baking aisle of your grocery store near the cornstarch and flour, or also with the Asian cooking ingredients. I use Bob's Red Mill brand.
I love to use all chicken drummettes when making chicken wings in the air fryer. It provides more meat compared to wingettes, and therefore more bang for your buck. If you can only find wingettes or a combination of the two though, this recipe will still work just fine.
For the best crispy buffalo wings, make sure to pat your wings completely dry with paper towels. I take each wing and individually wrap a paper towel around it to really get rid of the excess moisture. This is a very important step for perfectly crispy wings!
Don’t crowd the basket. Make sure to leave some room around your air fryer wings so that the pieces can cook evenly and get crispy. You will need to cook one batch of wings at a time to ensure even cooking in the air fryer.
Serving Suggestions: We love to eat these delicious wings with ranch dressing or blue cheese dressing for dipping. I personally love the traditional way of serving them with a side of carrots and celery sticks, but they also pair well with French fries or a scoop of Easy Pasta Salad.
Don’t overcook your chicken. All air fryers (like conventional ovens) cook differently and some cook hotter than others. Because of this, cooking times will vary. I recommend you start checking your buffalo wings for doneness around the 20 minute mark (although you'll be seeing them a lot before that as you shake the basket during cooking!)
Storing and reheating: Any leftover buffalo wings can be stored in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days. To reheat, you can place your finished wings in the air fryer at 350 degrees for 3-4 minutes or until heated through.
