Equipment

  • 1 Air Fryer

Ingredients

For the shrimp

  • 1 pound large shrimp peeled, deveined, tails on
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons olive oil
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder

For the garlic butter

  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter
  • 4 cloves fresh garlic minced
  • 2 teaspoons lemon juice freshly squeezed
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes optional
  • 1 Tablespoon fresh parsley finely chopped, optional

Instructions

  • Place the shrimp in a large bowl and add the olive oil, salt, garlic powder, onion powder, and black pepper. Toss to coat.
  • Preheat the air fryer to 400° Fahrenheit. Spray the air fryer basket with olive oil spray, then add the shrimp to the air fryer in a single layer without overlapping. Air fry for 6 minutes or until the shrimp is pink, curled, and opaque. Repeat with the remaining shrimp.
  • While the shrimp are cooking in the air fryer, melt the butter in a small skillet or sauce pan over medium-low heat. Add the garlic and cook until fragrant, about 30 seconds. Take the pan off the heat and whisk in the lemon juice, garlic powder, salt, red pepper flakes, and parsley, if using.
  • Drizzle the garlic butter over the cooked shrimp and serve over rice if desired.

Notes

  • Use fresh garlic in the butter sauce. Don't use the kind that comes packed in oil in a jar. I use that from time to time, too, but you want the fresh stuff here for best flavor!
  • Cook your air fryer shrimp in batches. For best results, don’t crowd your air fryer. Be sure to prepare in batches so that all the shrimp cooks evenly.
  • Preheat your air fryer. I like to preheat my air fryer for a few minutes before adding the food. This ensures that the proper temperature has been reached and that your shrimp will cook up nice and juicy.
  • Cooking time may vary. Depending on the size of shrimp that you use, you may need to adjust the time. I used jumbo 21-30 count shrimp here.
  • Storing leftovers. Any leftover shrimp and garlic butter can be stored in an airtight container in the fridge for up to three days.
