This Strawberry Salsa is full of juicy strawberries, freshly squeezed lime juice, and chopped basil. Pair it with a basket of tortilla chips for the perfect summer time appetizer, or as a topping for grilled chicken or fish. It's delicious!
Place the chopped strawberries in a medium sized bowl. Add the lime juice, lime zest, olive oil, sugar, salt, pepper, diced shallot, and chopped basil.
Gently stir to combine all the ingredients. You can serve it immediately, or refrigerate until ready to serve.
Notes
Fresh herbs are important. I like the flavor of basil with my strawberry salsa, but you could also try it with fresh cilantro. Just don't use dried herbs; this recipe works best with the fresh stuff.
Add a little heat. Add a thinly sliced jalapeno pepper to your salsa for a bit of a kick.
Switch up the fruit. Pineapple or mango would be great substitutes for the strawberries in your fruit salsa recipe.
Serve at room temperature or refrigerate for a few hours to allow the flavors to blend. I do find that this salsa tastes best served the same day it's made.
Store your strawberry salsa in an airtight container in the fridge for up to two days.
