Do you have a favorite dessert? I do. It’s my mom’s homemade chocolate pecan pie. Whenever I get to see her (which isn’t often enough) she always makes one for me, and it just gives me that warm, fuzzy feeling of “home.”
We are separated by about 900 miles, with her back in the Georgia and me out here in Texas. Missing family is one of the hardest things about living this military life, and sometimes you just need a little piece of comfort food to ease that ache of homesickness that comes around.
This recipe is a lot like my mom’s chocolate pecan pie, and I like it because it lends well to sharing. These can be made ahead and cut into bars to take to get togethers, potlucks, bake sales, holiday dinners, etc. And they’re pretty great for just enjoying all by yourself, too.

Okay, so I never make pecan pie. But I can TOTALLY get behind pecan pie bars!!
Pecans remind me of my childhood. We had a huge pecan tree in our backyard and always had plenty of pecans on hand. This recipe sounds so delicious and I like that I don’t have to make a pie crust. I can’t wait to try this recipe.
Oh my gosh yum!!!! I love anything pecan so tasty! thanks for sharing this
These look delicious! They’d be an amazing dessert one night. I love pecan pie.
OMG are you kidding me, this looks like the perfect fall treat! I need to give it a go asap
This filling desperately needs salt. I’ve had my first bar just now, fully cooled, and I’m going to sprinkle kosher salt over the top of the rest of the pan because the flavor so far is just sweet and flat. I can’t actually discern the chocolate in it right now, either. I hope the salt sprinkle will bring out some depth of flavor – I was very excited for these, I love pecan pie with chocolate chips, but at the moment I’m glad I have a house of four to help me eat them.
Do you know if these freeze well?
So good! Made when I realized I didnโt have a pie pan for a Pecan pie. And now one of my go to desserts for holidays.
this was easy to make and big hit –
