This Christmas Crack Recipe is one of my favorite holiday treats! Ritz crackers are coated in an easy homemade caramel sauce then topped with melted chocolate and holiday sprinkles. This is perfect for gifting and is always one of the first desserts to disappear when I make it for Christmas parties. I always get asked for the recipe; so here it is!

If you’re looking for the perfect, quick treat for your next holiday party, this super easy and delicious Christmas Crack recipe is for you!

I have been making this delicious treat for YEARS and it is a huge hit every single time I make it. You may have heard of saltine cracker toffee or Ritz cracker toffee, and this is the same thing. It’s like Christmas bark (minus the peppermint) plus a layer of buttery Ritz crackers for a sweet and salty crunch.

This is such an easy recipe, plus it only has five ingredients. Four if you don’t count the sprinkles! It’s PERFECT for gifting to teachers, neighbors, co-workers, etc. and is just as easy to transport as Christmas cookies

My one piece of advice is to go ahead and make two pans! You’ll appreciate having a double batch of Christmas Crack ready to go, I promise you. It freezes beautifully so you can have some on hand anytime you need (or want!) some!

Ingredients for Christmas Crack Recipe (Christmas Candy)

Ingredients laid out on a marble counter top.
  • Ritz crackers – you will need about two full sleeves of crackers. You can also use saltine crackers if you prefer.
  • Butter – I recommend using unsalted butter. You will need one cup, or two whole sticks.
  • Brown sugar – combines with the butter to make the caramel sauce. You will need one packed cup. I usually use light brown sugar, but dark brown sugar will work fine as well.
  • Chocolate chips – semi-sweet chocolate chips are my go-to for this recipe. You could also use milk chocolate or dark chocolate chips.
  • Sprinkles – the fun part! I like to use a variety of sprinkles for extra flair; usually a mix of colored sugar sprinkles, larger size jimmies, and holiday shapes.

Tips and Notes

  • Substitutions: You can use saltine crackers instead of Ritz crackers if you prefer. Spread them out in a single layer on your cookie sheet just like the recipe states for the Ritz crackers.
  • Store your Christmas Crack in an airtight container for up to four days. I store mine at room temperature on the counter, but you can also keep it in the fridge.
  • Freezing Instructions: This is the perfect recipe to freeze for later! Prepare your Christmas Crack as directed then place chunks into a freezer safe ziplock bag or other freezer safe container. Freeze for up to six months. Thaw overnight in the fridge or on the counter top before enjoying.
  • Serving Suggestions: This Christmas Crack is perfect for a hot chocolate bar! I love to serve it alongside my super rich Polar Express Hot Chocolate (the most amazing hot chocolate ever) along with some Molasses Crinkle Cookies or Chewy Chocolate Chip Cookies.
