How to Make Cake Mix Chocolate Chip Cookies – Step by Step

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees and line your cookie sheets with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat. This makes for even cookie baking and keeps the cookies from spreading too thinly on the pan. Combine the cake mix, oil, and eggs together in a large bowl, and mix by hand with a whisk until nice and smooth. Stir in the chocolate chips.

Step 2: Bake

Drop dough by rounded tablespoons onto your prepared cookie sheets and bake in the preheated oven for about 9-11 minutes.

Step 3: Serve

The cookies will be glossy and won’t look completely baked, but that’s OK! Remove them from oven and allow them to cool on the cookie sheet for 1-2 more additional minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.

Cake Mix Chocolate Chip Cookies – Tips and Notes

  • Line your sheet pan with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat. This will help your cake mix chocolate chip cookies to bake evenly and not spread too thinly. It also makes cleanup much easier.
  • Use a cookie scoop to help scoop out the dough. When you use a cookie scoop, all the cookies will be the same size, so they will cook evenly.
  • Sprinkle some coarse sea salt over the tops of your cookies as they are cooling. It gives a nice sweet and salty twist and looks pretty, too!
  • For more crunchy cookies, you can let them bake for an extra minute or two.
  • Store in an airtight container on the counter for up to four days.
