If you’re a deviled egg lover, then you’ve got to try this Million Dollar Deviled Eggs recipe.
There’s a secret ingredient in the filling (one that you might not expect!) that takes the classic deviled egg to the next level. Any guesses as to what it is?
I’ll give you a hint; it adds “richness” to the filling, hence the name Million Dollar Deviled Eggs.
Ok I won’t keep you in suspense any longer. The special ingredient and key to that delicious, creamy filling is none other than butter!
You only need a small amount, but it adds a nice rich and creamy texture to the filling. The other ingredients are important when making deviled eggs, too. You’ll want to use a good quality mayo (I like Hellmann’s), some yellow mustard, and a splash of pickle juice for tang.
I truly think this combination of simple ingredients creates the best deviled eggs you will ever eat! Give them a try and let me know what you think!
Ingredients for Million Dollar Deviled Eggs
- Large Eggs – you will need a dozen hard-boiled eggs as the base for your recipe. Make sure to buy large eggs; not medium or extra large size eggs.
- Mayonnaise – is used to create the creamy, tangy filling for your deviled eggs.
- Butter – the secret ingredient! I like to use salted butter; it adds a rich flavor to the velvety filling.
- Pickle juice – adds a nice tang to the filling. You can use regular pickle juice or sweet pickle juice.
- Mustard – I like to use yellow mustard, but you can also use Dijon mustard for a little different flavor.
- Spices – you will use a combination of garlic powder and smoked paprika to season your million dollar deviled eggs.

How to Make Million Dollar Deviled Eggs – Step by Step
Place your eggs in a large saucepan in a single layer and fill the pot with enough water so that the eggs are completely submerged. Bring the water up to a rolling boil. Cover and turn off the heat, and allow the eggs to sit for 10 minutes.
Use a slotted spoon to transfer the eggs to a bowl filled with ice water. Allow the eggs to sit for 5-10 minutes in the cold water to cool completely.
Peel the shells off of the eggs and cut them in half lengthwise with a sharp knife.
Use a small spoon to scoop all of the egg yolks into a small bowl. Add in the mayonnaise, butter, pickle juice, mustard, and garlic powder.
Mash the mixture with a fork until smooth and creamy. Transfer the egg yolk mixture to a piping bag with a star tip.
.
Place all of the egg whites onto a serving platter and pipe the egg yolk mixture into the hole of the egg whites. Sprinkle the deviled eggs with the smoked paprika and enjoy.
Tips and Notes
- Don’t skip the ice bath! It is my number one tip for good hard boiled eggs that are easier to peel.
- To add some heat, try adding a dash of hot sauce or tabasco sauce. You could also add small sliced pieces of jalapeno to the top! Yum!
- Add some pizazz to your finished deviled eggs. Consider topping them off with a some chopped crispy bacon or adding a little color with sliced green onions. I usually keep it simple with a sprinkle of paprika over the top.
- Store any leftover deviled eggs in an airtight container in the fridge for up to three days.
Tips for Making Perfect Hard Boiled Eggs
- Use older eggs. Fresh eggs are more difficult to peel, so choose eggs that are at least a week old for easier peeling.
- Watch the time closely. For a fully cooked but creamy yolk, cook for 9-10 minutes. For a firm yolk, cook for 11-12 minutes. I like a sweet spot right about 10 minutes.
- Use an Ice Bath. Immediately place eggs in an ice water bath after boiling. This stops the cooking process and makes peeling easier. I like to let the eggs sit in the ice bath for about 5-10 minutes before peeling.
- Peel Under Running Water. Crack the shell gently by tapping against the counter, then peel off the shell under running water or in a bowl of water.
