Crockpot Chicken and Noodles
Crockpot Chicken and Noodles – a comforting, home cooked meal made right in your slow cooker. Creamy noodles and juicy chicken are cooked in a savory sauce for a meal the whole family will love!
Hey there, y’all. I know it’s been been awhile since my last recipe post, and I apologize for that. Even though I’ve been feeling better sickness-wise over the past couple of months, my energy level has seriously tanked.
This pregnancy has truly thrown me for a loop and I am in countdown to baby-time! I’ve got roughly seven weeks to go and could not be more ready to meet our little guy!
Something that has been helping, at least where meal times are concerned, has been my trusty crockpot.
I’ve been making a lot of our slow cooker favorites, including Cheesy Crockpot Tortellini, Cilantro Lime Chicken Tacos, and Loaded Potato Soup.
I have gotten so achey and uncomfortable over the past few weeks, and my feet and back throb by the end of the day.
Standing over the stove making dinner feels like torture on my sore body, so being able to throw everything I need to make this Crockpot Chicken and Noodles into the slow cooker at the beginning of the day has been a lifesaver.
These Crockpot Chicken and Noodles are a family favorite and I’ve been making it for awhile now.
I use the same spices in it that I do for my Slow Cooker Chicken and Dumplings, and it creates a deliciously savory sauce for the chicken and noodles to cook in.
My kids devour this one, and it tastes SO good as leftovers the next day, too.
We usually eat this with either a salad or some roasted veggies like broccoli or asparagus. There are never any complaints at the table when I make this!
Now, this recipe does use cream of chicken soup. While I know not everyone is crazy about cream soups these days, I actually have a brand that I really like and that doesn’t contain a lot of junk in the ingredients list.
If you’ve never tried the Organic Cream of Chicken Soup from Pacific Foods, it’s really good stuff! It has great flavor and I feel a lot better about the ingredients, too.
I like to use it in my Slow Cooker Chicken and Dumplings recipe, too, and also in Slow Cooker Loaded Potato Soup.
Recipe: Crockpot Chicken and Noodles
Ingredients
- 1 1/2- 2 pounds boneless, skinless chicken breasts
- 2 cans (or boxes) cream of chicken soup, 10.5 oz each, (don't add water)
- 1-2 tsp dried parsley
- ½ tsp seasoned salt
- ¼ tsp poultry seasoning
- ¼ tsp garlic powder
- 1/2 stick butter,, sliced
- 3 1/2 cups chicken broth
- 8 oz. egg noodles,, uncooked
Instructions
- Place chicken breasts in the bottom of the crockpot, then top with the soups (no water added) and sprinkle with the spices. Add butter slices to the top, and pour in the chicken broth.
- Cook over low heat for 5-6 hours, or high heat for 3-4 hours. Remove the chicken from the pot and shred into large chunks with two forks.
- Add the shredded chicken back to the pot along with the dry egg noodles and stir. Continue cooking for 30-45 minutes, until noodles are tender. Enjoy!

Could you freeze the left overs?
I’m sure that would be fine!
Nice dish of comfort food. Since I only had roughly a pound of frozen chicken breast to work with I adjusted as follows. One can of condensed soup and one can of chicken broth. Spices the same including a generous chunk of butter. Since I wanted more noodles but didn’t want the egg noodles to drink up all the sauce I boiled a 12oz pk of wide egg noodles for about 5 minutes then added them to the shredded chicken&sauce mixture and let them finish cooking for about 12 more minutes. It was the perfect balance of sauce to noodles. I really wish I had a small bag of frozen peas around because I would have nuked them halfway and added them too. Nice recipe to work with. Thanks!
My wife cooks once maybe twice a year around the holidays. She makes some absolutely incredible chicken and noodles, and beyond that I do the other 99.9% of the cooking throughout the year. I tried this recipe today and was blown away. Turned out to be such a delicious and wonderful meal that I can’t wait to hit the leftovers tomorrow. I would never tell the wife, but this recipe rivals hers or in my opinion outdoes hers. So freaking good!
Thanks so much for the high praise, Greg! So happy to hear you enjoyed it, and that it’s as good as your wife’s!!! ๐
I work all day so my crockpot will automatically switch to the warm setting after the 4 hours are up. Would you recommend setting it to high after I get home to cook the noodles in the broth, or just cook the noodles separately? Thanks!
Switching to high should work fine!
It’s in the crockpot now. I made it for the first time last week and it was DELICIOUS! However, I used chcicken thighs instead because I prefer the taste and juiciness. I also rubbed a little salt and pepper on the chicken itself before placing in the pot. It came put amazing, and I cannot wait until this batch is done. Perfect meal for cold days!
Yay Becca! So happy to hear that!
Hello. I have frozen egg noodles how long do I cook those.
Hi! They might need to cook a bit longer than the dry noodles, but I’d start checking them at 45 minutes and go from there.
Super excited to try this recipe, but what would the time difference be if I used frozen chicken?
Hi Emily! Depending on how your crockpot cooks, it might only be a bit longer, like an hour or so. Mine is usually about the same fresh or frozen!
I am a dad trying to find quick and easy recipes to make for my wife and kids. We are a very very busy household. I stumbled upon this and could not be happier. I am in no way a cook, and I was able to make this easily and the family LOVED it!! I look forward to trying out other recipes.
So glad to hear that, Steve! Recipes for busy households are the name of the game around here! Glad y’all enjoyed it!
Going to try this this weekend. I have a friend with Alzheimers and so I am going to cook it and take it over to them in the morning so my question is, “How do you best reheat this?”
Hi Susan! You could put the crockpot on warm to heat it up! I hope your friend enjoys it!
This was great. The only thing is the noodles were mushy. I followed the recipe to the t. Any idea on what i can do next time for them not to be?
Hi Jenna! Your noodles might have cooked more quickly; maybe only cook them for 20-30 minutes and see how that works. ๐
Could I cut the chicken breasts into cubes before I put them in? I’m very pregnant and shredding chicken with a fork is a huge hassle (especially because I’ll be doubling this recipe, except for the chicken, I’ll probably keep it at about 2 lbs). I’m very excited to try this for dinner Sunday (I cook for my family and my husbands family every Sunday and im running out of ideas!). Would you change the cook time if the chicken was pre cut? I plan on cooking the entire doubled recipe in my 8qt crock pot.
Hi Harley, I’m sorry for the late reply. I’ve been out of town the past few weeks. Have you ever used an electric mixer to shred your chicken after its cooked?! That’s my favorite way, and super easy, too! Might be easier than cutting the chicken, but you could totally do that, too. I’d probably keep the cooking time the same either way. Congrats on your pregnancy, too! ๐
I live in an RV and have yet to master cooking on the propane stove, so I am looking forward to trying this in my crockpot. Since I already have precooked chicken breasts (my husband cooked them and forgot to put them in the dish he cooked them for) how much time should I cook them and the soup/seasoning before adding the noodles?
Hi Candace, here’s a suggestion I made to another reader wanting to use canned chicken. You could try it with your cooked chicken this way as well:
If using canned chicken you could probably make this on the stovetop instead. Iโd mix together the other ingredients in a large pot on the stove and heat over medium, add the chicken, cook for awhile to allow the flavors to blend, then add the noodles and cook until theyโre done! Iโve never tried this method before, but thatโs probably how I would attempt it.
Just made this recipe and was super happy with the results! I may add just a little more of the spices next time, but thatโs just a personal preference! So great! Thank you for sharing this!
So glad to hear that, Caitlin!
We love this meal. I have thought about adding a bag of frozen mixed vegetables. But battling with my self when I should add them and if I should defrost first.
Hi Sarah! I’d add them in the last 1-2 hours of cooking and wouldn’t defrost first!
Great recipe and super easy. It really hit the spot after being outside on a cold fall day! I used chicken thighs because they are cheaper. I cooked ours on high, and it only took 20 minutes for the noodles to cook. Yummy!
So glad you enjoyed it!
Weโre coming out of hurricane season and I have a ton of canned chicken. Any ideas on how to adapt to use it? Cooking time difference and additional seasonings?
Hi Jody, if using canned chicken you could probably make this on the stovetop instead. I’d mix together the other ingredients in a large pot on the stove and heat over medium, add the chicken, cook for awhile to allow the flavors to blend, then add the noodles and cook until they’re done!
