How to Make Pierogi Casserole – Step by Step
Ingredient measurements and full instructions are located in the recipe card below.
- Place pierogies into a large greased casserole dish and top with sliced sausage.
- Combine cream cheese, sour cream, chicken broth, and half of the green onions in a medium sized bowl. Pour over the casserole.
- Cover the casserole and bake for 30 minutes at 375 degrees.
- Remove foil, sprinkle with cheese, and bake for another 10 minutes.
- Sprinkle with remaining green onions before serving.

Tips and Notes
- Feel free to swap the kielbasa sausage for another type of fully-cooked smoked sausage. Turkey sausage and chicken sausage would also make good substitutions.
- I like to shred my cheese from a block of sharp cheddar. It melts nicely and adds great flavor. You can use a mild cheddar or any other type of cheese your prefer, though.
- Store any leftover Pierogi Casserole in an airtight container in the fridge for 4-5 days. Reheat small portions in the microwave before serving.

Frozen pierogies can be cooked in a variety of ways. When making a Pierogi casserole, they can be baked with the other ingredients in a 375 degree oven for 30 minutes. If you’d prefer to pan fry your pierogies, cook them in butter or oil over medium heat until golden, about 8 minutes per side. You can also cook frozen pierogies in boiling water for 3 minutes before draining.
You can find pierogies in the freezer section of your grocery store. Mine are located right next to the frozen raviolis. One popular brand of frozen pierogies is Mrs. T’s.
I don’t think you can go wrong with any of the frozen pierogies sold at the grocery store. I like to use the classic onion flavor for my casserole.

The BEST pierogi casserole recipe I have tried, and I have tried a few! I swapped out the sausage with fried bacon and onion, sooooo good!
Great recipe!! The directions and tips are fantastic. Thank you for sharing this!
Easy to prepare followed preparations procedure. Left out the cream cheese and substituted mozzarella which I had on hand instead. Sauted some red onion and mushrooms and added a handfull of frozen peas for color during the first baking. Topped with cheddar and a sprinkle of smoked paprika for the final bake.
I made this and it was delicious. Added spinach for a little veggie power. I want to make it to take to someone so should I bake it before I take it or can it be assembled hours before so the recipient can bake it? Concerned that the pierogies will will thaw and become watery. Advice?
Hi Sherrie, I think you are correct in thinking that it will become watery. I would bake it and then take it over!
This looks absolutely delicious! Will definitely be giving this a try this weekend 😁
